The grand dame of fine Thai cuisine, "Patara" quietly settles in Beijing during the serene mid Autumn festival. This one hundred seats restaurant sits on the 6th floor of the building where Gucci, Burberry, Bottega Veneta, Vertu, Zino Davidoff, Canali, Omega … adorn the mall.
Mo – Poomsak Teankaprasith – a young Thai designer who won many design awards was commissioned to create this Thai concept restaurant. Taking his inspiration from the Chinese emperor’s palace, he combines the sensual and vibrant colors seen throughout Beijing with the calm dark wood that is the characteristic of Thai house.
Stepping into Patara, your senses are aroused. Your nose is greeted with the lemongrass fragrant giving you a similar peaceful feeling when entering a spa. The restaurant is divided into three areas； the front part highlighted by the large golden bowls, bronze bells, fuchsia, and purple pillows. There are natural lighted alcoves for two by the window where guests can enjoy the city view. The two private rooms can be joined together to accommodate 25 people. The centre bar is fully stocked with wine and spirits.
Seated, the bronze table setting gives you a sense of palace grandeur. When the food arrives, it is truly the feast for your eyes and palate. This Thai cuisine is refined and authentic because all dishes are prepared by Thai chefs, all flown in from Thailand. The menu features signature dishes popular in Patara UK, Geneva, Bangkok, and Singapore. There are also new dishes specially created to please Beijing gourmet taste.
Before leaving Patara, you can look back at the front lounge area and make your next reservation to come back to this "sensual" restaurant again.
